Nancy Pelosi Calls For “Immediate” Of Confederate Statues Inside Capitol.

Speaker Nancy Pelosi calls for the immediate  removal of  dozens of Confederate statues displayed in the hall of the U.S. Capitol amid the civil unrest over George Floyd’s death.

A letter which was sent to the panel maintaining the collection of sculptures in the Hall, and it clearly ordered the Architect of the Capitol to remove the statues with immediate effect.

“As I have said before, the halls of Congress are the very heart of our democracy. The statues in the Capitol should embody our highest ideals as Americans, expressing who we are and who we aspire to be as a nation.

Monuments to men who advocated cruelty and barbarism to achieve such a plainly racist end are a grotesque affront to these ideals. Their statues pay homage to hate, not heritage. They must be removed,” she wrote.

Nancy Pelosi’s demands started days after the black man was killed by a white police officer in Minneapolis which triggered a lot of unrest all over the country.

The statues were created one hundred and fifty years ago. Some were donated by individual states in honour of notable people in history.

Most cities across the countrt have removed monuments and statues following the protests about their civil rights in the U.S. after the death of Floyd.

The Democrats had made several efforts to bring down the statues since 2017 when they were in minority.
