However, this weekend sees a massive challenge for the Blues when they host champions Liverpool on Sunday at Stamford Bridge.

So the challenge for Lampard will be trying to get the best out of his team with little time to prepare and with the big games like Liverpool, Lampard would often go with a 4-3-3 last season, and with the attacking threat of the Reds, it could be where he goes again.

That will throw up a tactical dilemma for the Blues boss, but it would see the return of last season’s player of the year, Mateo Kovacic.

But now the 26-year-old is back and should be in the starting XI for the crucial game in west London.
If Kovacic starts then it is likely Jorginho will move out of the team, with N’Golo Kante keeping his place.

It could mean Mason Mount drops into the midfield three, with Kai Havertz playing one side of Timo Werner and, if he is fit, Christian Pulisic starting on the left.

But for Lampard, having Kovacic back will be a massive boost and a player they seemed to miss on Monday night.

With his ability to drive through the midfield with the ball at his feet, it will add another threat to the Blues and link the football line.
