Democrats push for Republican Rep. Majorie Taylor Greene to be kicked out of office but Republican lawmakers are seeking this week to expel U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar, a Democrat from Minnesota, from her committee roles instead.
According to Fox News, A proposed amendment calls for Omar to be removed from her committee assignments in light of the conduct she has exhibited.
However in, February 2019, Omar triggered an uproar after she wrote, “It’s all about the Benjamins baby” in response to a tweet referencing House Minority Leader Rep. Kevin McCarthy’s vowed to take stringent “action” against her over her criticism of Israel.
Omar later suggested that American Israel Public Affairs Committee was paying politicians to take a favourable attitude toward Israel.
Meanwhile, Omar paid over $2 million from her campaign funds to her husband’s consulting company, which also received over $600k in Covid funds. She enriched herself in her first term in Congress.
The Republican-backed effort to remove Omar from committee assignments took shape as Republican and Democratic lawmakers scrutinized Taylor Greene over her past and recent actions. A separate House effort seeks to remove Taylor Greene from office entirely.
