Liz Cheney’s Jan. 6 Committee Witness Facing Serious Time for Lying Under Oath

Following testimony last week, Republican Rep. Liz Cheney of Wyoming and Cassidy Hutchinson, her star witness, are still under fire from the Democratic-led Jan. 6 committee.

During a special hearing on Tuesday, Hutchinson, a former aide to former White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, spoke before the committee. Many of her accusations against former President Donald Trump have been debunked as outright lies.

According to ABC News, Hutchinson said that she wrote a handwritten note at the hearing after Meadows gave her a note card and a pen to transcribe his dictation. Cheney presented the letter.

Former Trump White House attorney Eric Herschmann asserts authorship of the note.

In her testimony regarding the note, Hutchinson stated, “That’s a note that I drafted on January 6 under the chief of staff’s request, perhaps around 3 o’clock.”

And it’s written on the chief of staff note card, but Ms. Hutchinson, is it really your handwriting? Cheney next enquired.

Hutchinson responded, “That’s my handwriting.

According to a Herschmann spokesman, the handwritten message that Cassidy Hutchinson claimed to have written on January 6, 2021, was actually written by Herschmann. The writing was done by Mr. Herschmann, as confirmed by all sources with firsthand knowledge and law enforcement.

Hutchinson is unlikely to face charges for allegedly lying before Congress while under oath.

However, according to U.S. Code § 1621 of Title 18, perjury is a crime punishable by a fine, up to five years in jail, or both, if the offender “willfully and contrary to such oath says or subscribes any material matter which he does not believe to be true.”

According to Section 1001, anybody falsifies or withholds material before a congressional committee may be fined or imprisoned for up to five years in any subject that falls under the purview of the executive, legislative, or judicial branch of the U.S. government.

Many of Hutchinson’s obscene assertions were refuted following her testimony by persons who knew the truth.

Hutchinson’s evidence consisted largely of secondhand information and hearsay that she obtained from others but did not herself observe.

One of the most amazing moments of her testimony was when she claimed that after being told he couldn’t visit the Capitol on January 6, 2020, Trump grabbed the wheel of the presidential limousine and then grabbed Secret Service member Bobby Engel by the throat.

But shortly after giving her testimony, Engel claimed that the incident she described never had occurred.

Trump security staffer Tony Ornato and Engel, the agent driving the presidential SUV, both refuted Hutchin’s claims and declared they would swear under oath that no agent had been harmed and that Trump had never reached for the wheel.

Eric Herschmann, a former Trump White House attorney, challenged Hutchinson’s assertion that she penned a memo for Trump to read on January 6.

Herschmann claimed that he, not Hutchinson, was the author of the memo.

Despite nearly all of Hutchinson’s accusations being refuted and challenged, Cheney is sticking by her.

Cheney stated that she is “completely confident” in Hutchinson’s testimony in a conversation with “This Week” co-anchor Jonathan Karl on ABC.

She’s a young lady who is really brave, said Cheney. “The committee is not going to watch as men claiming executive privilege and unnamed sources trash her character,” they said.

In contrast, Cheney is about to pay the price for her anti-Trump campaign given that a poll shows she is trailing Trump supporter Harriet Hageman by a staggering 30 points in Wyoming.

  1. It’s time for lying congressmen and women be held accountable for their crimes just like any civilian would be. No more immunity. What ever happened to no one is above the the law ? There is such a thing called abuse of power. They want to talk about equality ? Well , let’s give it to them. Equal justice under the law. Time for the committee to answer questions under oath. These members are far from righteous like they want you to believe. Just because you sit on a chair elevated above everybody in the room doesn’t mean everything you say is true and it doesn’t make you untouchable.

  3. Nothing will happen to her even with ironclad proof. She lied under oath like most of bidens administration, and appointees, but when you own the DOJ and the head boxer clown Garland there’s no consequences. Unless your a conservative and wander into a government building then your an insurectionist 🤯

  4. It’s time everybody be held to the same laws and standards as every American citizen is. These politicians lie cheat and steal but have no consequences. WHY ? There are now more criminals in our government then we have locked up in prison across this once great nation. The 2nd. Ammendment was written in our constitution to protect us from enemies both foreign and domestic and protect us from our own government when it got to big and no longer serving the people. As we are there now at this moment. It’s time we the people take our country and our house back. THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO BE WORKING FOR US NOT THEMSELVES !!!
