President Donald Trump declared on Friday that all the records seized by FBI agents during the pointless search of his Mar-a-Lago residence on Monday had been declassified.
In a statement that was provided to reporters, Trump wrote, “Number one, it was all declassified.” They didn’t need to “seize” anything, according to number two.
He’s correct. Trump granted full access to all the documents in June, which was only two months ago, and he even paid a visit while they were there to say hello. He instructed them to ask him anything they needed to. The former president was only asked to keep the agents in a location that was more secure than the one they were in.

The question of whether Trump declassified the disputed documents is becoming more and more important as the lawless DOJ under Merrick Garland must determine whether it has the authority to prosecute the president.
