Swiss ambassador Sylvie Brunner was discovered dead in her Tehran residence last week after falling from the balcony of her 17th-floor flat. She served as the first secretary of the Swiss delegation and was a member of the Section of US Interests.

Neighbors reported hearing a huge explosion late at night the night before she died.

The next morning, her corpse was discovered in the garden.

‘With Iranian authorities still deliberating over the death of Sylvie Brunner, a 51-year-old Swiss diplomat stationed in Tehran, the Hamshahri daily has published an account of her death that may fuel suspicion. Brunner, the first secretary of the Swiss embassy in Washington and deputy director of the United States interest department, was killed when she fell from her high-rise apartment building on Tuesday.

In the two countries, Switzerland has long represented the interests of the United States and Iran. The two countries have not had diplomatic relations since 1980 when the revolutionary government in Iran did not intervene to free American diplomats who had been taken hostage by militant students in Tehran.

Hamshahri gave a detailed but ambiguous account of Brunner’s death. She “fell from the 17th floor where she resided and her corpse was located in the grounds outside the building beneath her balcony,” according to a short report from Iran’s judicial news agency Mizan on Tuesday evening.

Mizan said Brunner’s corpse was brought to the coroner’s office after a judge and crime-scene investigators investigated the site.

But, about eight hours before Brunner’s corpse was found, Hamshahri said neighbors in the tower heard a big bang, like an explosion.

In his statement, Hamshahri stated a cleaning found the deceased and alerted the building’s A coroner’s specialist confirmed death happened eight hours before the corpse was found.’
