House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is blocking a Republican probe of the Capitol building’s security flaws, which was launched on January 6.
Rodney Davis, the leading member of the House Administration Committee, issued a letter to Nancy Pelosi, urging that House offices under her authority cease hindering the Republicans’ investigation.
The letter reads:
“The events of January 6, 2021, revealed severe security weaknesses at the Capitol Complex. Unfortunately, House Democrats have shown a greater interest in exploiting the events of January 6th for political gain over the last year than they have in performing basic oversight of the security vulnerabilities disclosed on that day. As Speaker of the House, you are the most senior elected person in the House of Representatives, and as such, you are ultimately accountable for all House operations, not just those of your party. The Democrats only show superficial interest in investigating the security vulnerabilities identified on January 6 and obstructing Republican access to House records, while simultaneously holding witnesses in criminal contempt of Congress for raising genuine questions of legal privilege.”
According to Fox News,Republican lawmakers began investigating the security vulnerabilities of the Capitol immediately after last year’s riot, according to Davis, who said they sought information from the acting director of the United States Capitol Police, as well as the House sergeant-at-arms, and the House chief administrative officer.
Davis asserted that only the USCP has so far complied with the request, pointing out that the House sergeant at arms and the House chief administrative officer is the two House officers who report directly to Nancy Pelosi and who have yet to produce records related to the Jan. 6 riot,” according to the report, which also stated that only the USCP has so far complied with the request.
Ohio Republican Rep. Jim Jordan claims that the Democrats’ committee examining the event at the United States Capitol on January 6 is a “total attack on the liberties of the American people.
