Frank Lampard has said that Ruben Loftus-Cheek could be an option in the ‘No.10’ role for Chelsea this season and says he will give the midfielder time to return to full form and fitness.
The 25-year-old spent almost the entirety of last season on the sidelines with a serious injury but returned to action at the end of the campaign and started in our opening day victory over Brighton on Monday night.
He played just behind central striker Timo Werner against the Seagulls and our head coach has said Ruben could feature there again, despite the competition for places in the squad.
‘Ruben obviously has been out for a long time and even his return to play was pretty broken by the lockdown and the restart when he was just available to play a few games,’ said Lampard.
‘So we certainly have to give him a bit of time on those fronts.
‘It’s a position [No.10] that Ruben can play for us. We’ve got injuries with [Hakim] Ziyech out and [Christian] Pulisic out as well,’ said Lampard, on deploying Loftus-Cheek in a more advanced role.
‘They are players that will come back and give me lots of options, so it was interesting for me to see Ruben in that number 10 position, he can certainly give us lots in those areas.’
New Faces at Jurgen Klopp Training ground.
A number of Liverpool’s youth prospects joined Jurgen Klopp’s first-team training session on Wednesday ahead of this weekend’s huge clash against Chelsea.
And things don’t get any easier on Sunday as they take on a Blues side who have made a number of impressive signings and comfortably beat Brighton 3-1 in their first match.
While the usual faces were hard at work during the training session at Melwood, a number of lesser spotted members of the squad also joined in the action.
One of them was U18 France international Billy Koumetio, who looked delighted to be mingling with some of Liverpool’s star names.
The 17-year-old centre-back signed his first professional contract with the club last month, making his debut in the pre-season match against Stuttgart, and it would be no
surprise to see him involved in domestic cup games in the near future.
Fellow young defender Sepp van den Berg was also present, and he appeared to be enjoying a spot of football-tennis.

New signing Kostas Tsimikas and Saturday’s hat-trick hero Mohamed Salah were also seen smiling together, and there seemed to be a good spirit around the training ground.
Meanwhile Klopp has spoken out about his long-term plans, and has refused to rule out staying at Liverpool beyond his current contract, which expires in 2024.
Frank Lampard should drop Ruben Loftus Cheek. Kepa is underperforming and everyone is shouting! RLC is less than underperforming and no one seems to be concerned!
