Liz Cheney, a Republican congresswoman from Wyoming, keeps receiving terrible news.
According to reports, Cheney is enraged by the Select Committee’s decision on January 6 not to send former President Donald Trump for criminal prosecution.
Bennie Thompson, the committee’s chairman and a Democrat from Mississippi, told CNN that the committee lacks the ability to refer Trump for criminal prosecution.
“No, you know, we’ll tell you the truth. I’m sure they’ll do it if the Department of Justice looks at it and decides that something deserves more investigation,” he said.
When pressed further, he responded, “No, that’s not our job. It is our responsibility to investigate what happened on January 6 in terms of the facts and circumstances before making recommendations.
Cheney and other Democrats did not want to hear this.
Cheney’s problems are more serious because her key witness is being attacked.
During a special hearing, Cassidy Hutchinson, a former aide to former White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, testified before the committee. Many of her accusations against Trump have been proven to be untrue.
Many of Hutchinson’s obscene assertions were refuted following her testimony by persons who knew the truth.
Hutchinson’s evidence consisted largely of secondhand information and hearsay that she obtained from others but did not herself observe.
One of the most amazing moments of her testimony was when she claimed that after being told he couldn’t visit the Capitol on January 6, 2020, Trump grabbed the wheel of the presidential limousine and then grabbed Secret Service member Bobby Engel by the throat.
But shortly after giving her testimony, Engel claimed that the incident she described never had occurred.
Trump security staffer Tony Ornato and Engel, the agent driving the presidential SUV, both refuted Hutchin’s claims and declared they would swear under oath that no agent had been harmed and that Trump had never reached for the wheel.
Eric Herschmann, a former Trump White House attorney, challenged Hutchinson’s assertion that she penned a memo for Trump to read on January 6.
Herschmann claimed that he, not Hutchinson, was the author of the memo.
It is becoming clearer and clearer that Cheney’s attempt to keep her Wyoming seat is going too far.
According to a recent poll, she continues to trail her GOP primary rival Harriet Hageman, who received support from the late President Donald Trump last autumn.
The poll also revealed that Cheney is trailing Hageman by a staggering 30 points.
The voters in Wyoming are likewise sick of Cheney.
Jon Nicolaysen, who intends to support Cheney’s opponent Harriet Hageman, said, “It’s time for a change. “Liz has kind of turned into a vendetta against Trump, and she’s lost sight of what’s crucial right now.”
According to Rebecca Bextel, owner of a business services firm in Jackson, “I think if it’s a fair election, that there’s no doubt, there is zero doubt, that Hageman will win and she’ll win by a lot.” “There is a lot of enthusiasm for her. People are pleased.
Considering that Hageman grew up on a Wyoming ranch, Max Jacobson, who presided over last month’s Trump event, said he and his family support her since she experienced a similar childhood.
Harriet Hageman probably raced around while carrying the bucket as they castrated the animal, speculated Jacobson. “That’s the distinction. She sets a good example.
Professor of political science at the University of Wyoming Jim King stated that “people have, for the most part, made up their minds.” “If you favor Cheney, then you support Cheney. If you favor Hageman or [state Sen. Anthony] Bouchard, I doubt anything spoken during the committee hearings will have an impact on your support.
