Tottenham defender Eric Dier was handed a four-match ban on from the Football Association for climbing into the stands and confronting a supporter in the wake of his team’s FA Cup loss against Norwich in March.
Shortly after Tottenham lost a penalty shootout to Norwich, he immediately rushed his way into an area of the field in front of the stand where his younger brother, Patrick, and the other family sat.
Dier was involved in a heated debate and was verbally abused by a spectator, he then went ahead and entered the stand after seeing his brother arguing with the same spectator.
The England international has been sanctioned by the Football Association on a charge of misconduct and the panel also found Dier’s actions to be “threatening.”
However, he was fined 40,000 pounds ($50,000) and cautioned about his future conduct.
“Eric Dier has been suspended for four matches with immediate effect, fined £40,000 and warned as to his future conduct following a breach of FA Rule E3.
An independent Regulatory Commission subsequently found Eric Dier’s actions to be threatening,” An FA statement read.
Dier said he confronted the spectator because he thought his brother was in trouble.
