Dr. Anthony Fauci, a specialist in infectious diseases and Joe Biden’s chief medical advisor, said in an interview with Politico on Monday that he plans to retire at the end of Biden’s tenure.
Anthony Fauci says he intends to retire at the end of President Biden’s term after more than five decades of federal service under seven presidents, according to POLITCO on Monday.
Fauci, 81, became the face of the American government’s efforts to limit the COVID-19 pandemic while serving as the head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) since 1984.
Under previous President Donald Trump, he participated on the White House task team on the coronavirus.
A request for comment from Reuters was not immediately answered by the NIAID.
Fauci gained popularity among Americans after speaking about AIDS.

In December, Adam Andrzejewski, CEO of OpenTheBooks.com, claimed that Dr. Fauci’s retirement payout was “the most lucrative golden parachute in U.S. government history,” netting him over $350,000.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention anticipates an increase in the daily rate of COVID-19-related hospitalizations for the first time since May. As of July 13, the seven-day average hospital admittance rate was approximately 6,000 per day, an increase of over 13% from the previous week.

The good news is that those who have been immunized and/or boosted, especially those who have received the entire component of the boosting, are typically highly protected against serious illness, said Fauci.
With ABC News, Fauci also spoke about the recent outbreak of monkeypox. In order to prevent and treat monkeypox, a condition brought on by the monkeypox virus, he highlighted that it should be “taken[n] seriously,” noting that in some locations there are vaccines and antiviral drugs available for people who meet the necessary requirements.
During the interview with ABC News, Fauci acknowledged that the more than 1,000 confirmed cases in the U.S. as of July 14 were probably a “undercount.”
In reality, he claimed, the disease was growing at a rate that made testing and immunizations necessary.
