The Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell slammed Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Sunday after she spent a huge sum of $1.8 trillion on bill to protect the economy and American families from the fallout of the coronavirus.
McConnell said the both parties have spent all week trying to negotiate and work around the clock putting together the bipartisan bill which they finally reached a deal.
Nancy Pelosi demanded that the Senate Republicans include all the new item she wanted, but it was rejected and Senate Democrats then voted against proceeding on a bill which they earlier negotiated.
McConnell was furious about the whole plan and stated that the House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was part of the Democratic leadership who killed the bill, which reportedly had strong bipartisan support. The bill would have provided direct payments of $1,200 to millions of Americans and provided numerous other benefits.
“Now the build-up to this, so everybody fully understands, is that we had a high level of bipartisanship in five different working groups over the last 48 hours where members who were participating were reaching an agreement, And then all of a sudden the Democratic leader and the Speaker of the House shows up, and we’re back to square one. So, we’re fiddling here, fiddling with the emotions of the American people, fiddling with the markets, fiddling with our health care”, McConnell said.
He however added that the coronavirus has hit the Senate as well, urging Republicans and Democrats to step up and reach an agreement in order to do the needful for the American people.
