A significant portion of Democrats, including Joe Biden, Michael Bloomberg and Sen. Elizabeth Warren, during the Democratic primary debate accused President Trump of slashing the CDC budget, and Biden has suggested that he would never pursue similar cuts. The Obama administration repeatedly sought to cut hundreds of millions of dollars in funding to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC),- seemingly undercutting Joe Biden’s repeated attacks on Trump for its pandemic preparedness.
When Trump was asked about the budget cuts, and about his firing of some top CDC officials, at Wednesday’s press briefing , he said he cannot have thousands of people around when he doesnt need them but he would not hesitate to get them back quickly when he needs them.
Meanwhile, Joe Biden claimed that Trump had wiped out hikes in spending for the CDC and National Institutes of Health with his budget saying the Obama administration increased the budget of the CDC and claimed that Trump “wiped all out”.
