After agreeing to a fundraiser with two lobbyists from a movement to unseat Washington Commanders owner Dan Snyder, a prominent House Democrat is now under investigation for ethics violations.
The American Accountability Foundation considers Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi’s attendance at the event a violation of House ethics rules.
Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi, a Democrat from Illinois, is accused by the American Accountability Foundation of possibly breaking House ethics laws by attending a fundraiser for a lobbying team. According to Fox News, Tom Manatos was the owner of a website that criticized Snyder.
Tom Jones, the president of the AmeriGas Association, claimed that Rep. Krishnamoorthi, his staff, and possibly other individuals broke House ethics laws and the federal bribery statute by accepting campaign contributions in exchange for using the Oversight Committee to look into and criticize the Washington Redskins at the request of wealthy lobbyists.
“The group sent a letter Friday asking the House Ethics Committee to look into the congressman’s actions. According to the watchdog, Krishnamoorthi might have broken both federal bribery laws and House ethics rules. Krishnamoorthi oversaw the investigation into Snyder and the Commanders by the House Oversight and Reform Committee. According to Fox News, receiving gifts or campaign contributions in connection with official legislative activities is prohibited by House ethics rules.
The fundraiser was promoted by Mike Manatos as an opportunity for Krishnamoorthi to hear about the team’s research.

Weeks before requesting an investigation into season ticket holders and the NFL, Krishnamoorthi sent a 20-page letter to the FTC.
According to Krishnamoorthi, he was not aware of the overture made on his behalf. The fundraiser was postponed by the lawmaker.
Concerns linger over Krishnamoorthi’s participation in fundraising. Two Strathdee Group employees were listed as RSVPs on the invitation sent out with Manatos’ email. According to FEC data, Krishnamoorthi pays $5,000 per month for fundraising consulting.
The language in the fundraiser invitation that alluded to Rep. Krishnamoorthi’s involvement in the team investigation, according to Jones, was a corrupt quid pro quo. Rep. Krishnamoorthi exposed his guilty conscience and highlighted his violations of House and federal law by postponing the event.
